About Aunty Eileen
Thank you for allowing me to share a bit of my life with you. I am happily married to my husband of 46 years, and we have three married sons and six grandchildren, ages 3 to 23.
I learned to sew at age 12 and have been sewing for 58 years. I was blessed to have a mother and grandmother who were dressmakers, and my grandfather who was a tailor. I also learned much from my 4-H teachers for 7 years, along with attending sewing school for several summers and 4 years of high school in Home Economics. After high school, I studied "Commercial Sewing" for two years. I was a dressmaker for about 30 years and have been doing clothing alterations until the present. Our three sons enjoy sewing, along with 5 grandchildren. Our oldest son did men's clothing alterations, our second son did some upholstery, and our youngest son has enjoyed sewing "Aloha shirts". At one point, when I had just one sewing machine, we would "fight to use the machine", so to speak. I believe sewing is a gift and a skill that can benefit you for a lifetime and be passed on from one generation to the next. I've had a sewing school for the past 17 years, and taught many students from ages 10 to 85. They have sewn from a range of simple garments to formal gowns, quilts and various craft items. |
Sewing is so SEW much fun and to teach it has been even more rewarding.
